NEW MANDATORY ONLINE VISA APPLICATION

Visa for the Faroe Islands and Greenland

MANDATORY ONLINE VISA APPLICATION

You must fill in your visa application and pay the application fee online using ApplyVisa.um.dk.

After you have applied and paid the visa fee online, you must print the cover letter from ApplyVisa and hand in supporting documents at the Embassy of Denmark in Paris.

Who needs to apply?
The Faroe Islands and Greenland are part of the Kingdom of Denmark, however the Faroe Islands and Greeland are not part of the Schengen area. Consequently, a visa valid for the Schengen area or a French residence permit is not valid to enter the Faroe Islands or Greenland.

If you plan to make a short-term visit (up to 90 days) to the Faroe Islands or Greenland, you must have a visa that is valid for entry into the Faroe Islands and/or Greenland, if you come from a country with a visa requirement. For further information, please refer to the website of the Danish Immigration Service

When should you apply?
You can apply for a maximum of 6 months before. The Embassy recommends that you hand in your application as soon as possible prior to the intended travel to Greenland / the Faroe Islands. The processing time of your application is generally 15 days, but in some cases the processing time can be extended, when further case processing is needed or if processing time is extended, cf. below “Further information”.

Supporting documents to be remitted when applying for a visa to the Faroe Islands and Greenland

  • Valid passport with valid residence permit in France. Both documents need to be valid at least three months beyond the return date from Greenland / the Faroe Islands. Colour copies of every single page of the passport, (including empty pages and the front and back cover) as well as colour copy of both sides of the residence card. The passport must have two blank pages for the visa sticker.
  • Copies of scheduled travel plan indicating the return travel. The Danish Mission recommends that you do not buy a plane ticket before your visa has been approved.
  • Hotel booking(s) or invitation from the person hosting you in Greenland / Faroe islands for the whole stay. The Embassy recommends that the host fills in an invitation form, depending on the visa type/purpose. This form can be found here. Invitation ID is sufficient if the host is Danish.
  • Bank statement covering the last 3 calendar months proving that you have sufficient means at your disposal to cover your living expenses as well as your travel home.
  • Last payslip, if relevant.
  • No photo needed. Your photo will be recorded as part of the biometric data at the Embassy.

It is highly recommended to be covered by a travel insurance covering medical expenses, hospitalization and repatriation. However, persons with a visa valid only for entry into the Faroe Islands and/or Greenland are not required to be covered by a travel insurance.

Please book an appointment at the Danish Embassy in Paris for handing in your cover letter and supporting documents by sending an email to [email protected] or by phone +33 1 44 31 21 21.

The Danish Embassy in the United Kingdom is responsible for the issuance of a Danish visa further to an application in Paris.

Please find further information on the website of the Danish Embassy in London, e.g. concerning current processing time.

Please be informed that the visa applicant is responsible for checking the information in the visa sticker immediately after the issue. For more information kindly read here.
